Foreign candidates
Step by step
Dear Candidate, if you do not have Polish citizenship, please read the following information carefully:
All foreign Candidates follow the admission procedure rules specified for a given programme in the catalogue.
Step 1 - register in the Online Admissions System (OAS) – specify financial conditions based on which you are applying to AMU. Please, pay special attention to the spelling of your given name and surname - it must match the spelling in your passport. Please, provide an accurate address to be able to receive all correspondence from AMU.
Step 2
I - first-cycle studies, long-cycle studies
Attach the required documents, a photo of good quality and foreign school certificate in line with the requirements. AMU Department of Education must compute your scores. If you have taken the Polish Matura exam, please enter your results in the OAS.
For some programmes you might be required to take additional exams. Information about this can be found under the selected programme in the programme catalogue. Admission subcommittee will notify you about the exact day and time of the exam.
Remember to pay the enrollment fee.
II - second-cycle studies
Attach the required documents and foreign diploma in line with the requirements. AMU Department of Education must compute your scores. If you hold a diploma from a Polish university, please enter the grade in the Online Admissions System.
Some programmes require taking additional exams. Admission subcommittee will notify you about the exact day and time of the exam.
Remember to pay the enrollment fee. Please, read the admission schedule carefully - key dates are listed for each programme. At this stage, you must submit/send a set of required documents to the admission subcommittee.
Step 3
I - first-cycle studies, long-cycle studies
List of candidates selected for admission. A Candidate selected for admission is obliged to submit all required documents within the specified time limit and upon doing so is expected to take up the studies in the programme. Failure to submit the required documents within the specified time limit means the candidate opts out of taking up the studies. If you changed your mind and do not wish to take up studies in this programme, click “resign” so that other candidates have a chance to be selected.
A candidate not selected for admission may submit, within the specified time limit, a statement on willingness to take up the studies. The statement is submitted electronically via the Online Admissions System.
Decision to deny admission will be sent to you by post.
II - second-cycle studies
Results of selection procedure will be posted in the Online Admissions System. Upon logging into his/her account, the candidate will see information on admission or denial of admission.
Step 4
I - first-cycle studies, long-cycle studies
Within dates specified for each programme in the programme catalogue you must provide documents to the admission subcommittee at the faculty where you wish to study.
To have a copy of a document attested by AMU you must present the original document for inspection to the admission subcommitte which then will be able to attest the copy. If the required documents are submitted by a third party or sent by post, only copies of documents should be submitted/sent. At the beginning of the academic year, please, take the original documents to the students’ dean’s office where the submitted copy will be attested. Please, remember that the date the documents are physically delivered to AMU is the date of submission.
Step 5 - Admitted candidates receive a decision on admission to a given programme.

Please, read the admission schedule carefully - key dates are listed for each programme in the programme catalogue. In the catalogue, you can also find information about the type of selection procedure and exams, if any are required.
- Calculating the results of selection procedure
The basis for the order on the selection lists is the score calculated based on the Matura exam/ its foreign equivalents or grades on the diploma.
Scores based on foreign documents are calculated on an individual basis.
Computation methods used to determine the selection results depend on the admitting unit and type of programme for which rules on specific subjects considered during selection, the number of subjects and weights are established.
For some programmes you might be required to take additional exams. Information about this can be found under the selected programme in the programme catalogue.
In Polish/In English
- Enrollment fee is PLN 85.

No tuition for full-time studies in Polish is charged in the case of foreigners who:
- are citizens of EU Member States, Swiss Confederacy or members of European Free Trade Association - a party to European Economic Area agreement and members of their families living in the Republic of Poland;
- have been granted permanent stay permit or EU long-term resident;
- have been granted temporary stay permit in the Republic of Poland in connection with circumstances specified in the act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners (Foreigners Act)
- Article 159(1) (joining your family)
- Article 186(1)(3 or 4) (due to other circumstances - holding a long-term EU resident status granted by other EU Member State or being a member of foreigner's family specified in Article 186(1)(3) with whom you are staying in another EU Member State and you accompany him/her or you want to join him/her)
- hold a valid Polish Card (Karta Polaka) or a decision on establishing Polish origin
- are a spouse, ascendant or descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland living in Poland
Attention!
Foreigners must indicate they hold a given document in the OAS and attach it.
Students taking up studies free of charge are exempt from fees for additional educational services specified in the Regulation (coming soon).
In English
Enrollment fee refund
Refund of enrollment fee is possible only in the following circumstances:
- you overpaid, that is you paid more than the amount due
- the programme you applied for was not open
- you chose not to participate in the admission process before the enrollment deadline for a given programme
- you paid the fee after the enrollment deadline had passed which means you were not included in the admission procedure.
Enrollment fee is not refunded if you were denied admission. Enrollment fee refund is made upon your request filed through the OAS.
Documents
Required admission documents in Polish/English for first-cycle studies and long-cycle studies / second-cycle studies:
- personal questionnaire with a photo
The questionnaire may be downloaded from your account in the Online Admissions System. The questionnaire must be printed out, signed and sent within the specified time limit together with other required documents for each programme;
- Polish Matura certificate or
- orginal foreign certificate with apostille/i.e. legalized on the basis on which you are eligible to apply to universities in the country issuing the document;
- Polish first-cycle studies diploma or
- orginal foreign diploma with apostille/i.e. legalized on the basis on which you are eligible to apply to second-cycle studies in the country issuing the document;
If you have doubts as regards the recognition of a foreign diploma in Poland, you can apply to NAWA (Polish National Agency of Academic Exchange) by filing an application for written information concerning the diploma.
- the original translation of the certificate/diploma into Polish/English only if you for studies conducted in English
Each document issued in a language different than Polish should be translated into Polish. The translation must be performed by a sworn translator entered in the register maintained by the Polish Ministry of Justice, a sworn translator from EU (if a given Member State has the profession of a sworn translator) or other translation into Polish certified by a Polish consul in the country issuing the document.
If it is impossible to translate the document into Polish, and you take up studies in English, you may have it translated into English. The translation must be performed by a translator accredited by the country issuing the document or, a sworn translator from EU (if a given Member State has the profession of a sworn translator)
Documents issued in English do not need to be translated.
- a document indicated in the system and confirming the eligibility to take up studies free of charge in accordance with the list;
- a colour digital photo in line with requirements for photos used in identity documents; the photo should have minimum resolution of 236 x 295 pixels (JPEG,TIFF, BMP, PNG);
Immediately upon commencing your studies you must submit the following:
• a document confirming your identity - for inspection only
• an administrative decision issued by a competent educational officer (kurator oświaty) which confirms your eligibility to apply to a university - no later than by the end of the first semester of your studies
• written statement made by the statutory representative (a parent or legal guardian) on giving consent to your studying - applies to candidates under 18.
• medical certificate on lack of contraindications to study in a selected programme certified by occupational medicine physician upon referral issued by AMU-applies to candidates admitted to programmes where such a certificate is required

Candidates under 18 (minors)
A minor is a candidate who at the time of applying and gaining the student status has not attained 18 years of age.
Such candidates must submit an additional document in the dean’s office to obtain student status - Statement of statutory representative (henceforth the Statement) - Template 1 (for persons whose statutory representative reside abroad) or Template 1 (for persons whose statutory representatives reside in Poland).
Based on the Statement - template 1, a minor candidate may affix signature to the following documents: personal questionnaire, agreement of studies-related fees, application for dormitory and lease agreement for dormitory housing and other forms, requests and application connected with the commencement, course and completion of studies.
In the case of Statement - template 2, all the documents listed above are signed by the statutory representative residing in Poland.
If you start studies in more than one programme you need to submit Statements for each programme separately.
Submission of the statement:
1. a minor candidate may come to the dean’s office with a parent/guardian who will sign the Statement in person in the presence of the dean’s office staff. The statutory representative must bring the child’s birth certificate or other document confirming his/her legal custody over the candidate as well as identity document with a photo to verify the identity of a parent/legal guardian. If the document is issued in language other than Polish it must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator;
2. a parent/legal guardian may come to the dean’s office alone (without the candidate) and sign the Statement. The statutory representative must bring identity document with a photo and the child’s birth certificate or other document confirming his/her legal custody over the candidate. If the documents are issued in language other than Polish they must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator;
3. a minor candidate may submit the Statement in person or sent it to the dean’s office. The Statement (depending on which template is selected) should be signed by statutory representatives. Apart from documents required on the basis of the Statement, the candidate’s birth certificate or other document confirming legal custody over the candidate should also be submitted. If the documents are issued in language other than Polish they must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator;
4. The Statement may be filed in the dean’s office through an attorney-in-fact (without the candidate of statutory representative present). Power of attorney (template 3) and a photo ID confirming the attorney’s identity should also be submitted. Apart from documents required on the basis of the Statement, the following documents must be submitted as well: the candidate’s birth certificate or other document confirming legal custody exercised over the candidate by the person granting the power of attorney If the documents are issued in language other than Polish they must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator;
Signatures on the Statement (affixed outside of the dean’s office) and on the Power of attorney must be attested by a notary and in the case of a foreign notary (clerk), the attestation statement must be translated into Polish by a sworn translated and have an apostille.
Foreign documents - certificates, diplomas
Legalization is an attestation procedure to establish formal conformity of a document with the law of the issuing country or authenticity of signatures and seals affixed on the document.
Foreign education-related documents - secondary school leaving exams and university diplomas obtained abroad must have an apostille attached or be legalized. Without proper attestation attached we will not accept such documents during admission.
ATTENTION!
The above formal requirements do not apply to International Baccalaureate certificates and European Baccalaureate certificates.
APOSTILLE
Apostille is, in short, an attestation that the certificate/diploma you have is authentic, thanks to which it is possible to use it abroad. Apostille which is issued in the form of a seal on the document or a separate document you need to apply in the country issuing the document.
If the country that issued your document is a party to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 which abolished the requirement of legalization of foreign official documents (Journal of Laws of 2005, no. 112, item 938), please check where you need to apply to obtain apostille.
LEGALIZATION
If the country that issued your document is not a party to the Hague Convention, then legalization is done by the consulate in this country. You need to contact proper diplomatic institution and learn what the process involves.
RECOGNITION OF CERTIFICATES
Foreign certificates that entitle you to take up studies in the country issuing the document which do not require any formal requirements because they are recognised by virtue of the law, are:
1. Issued by a state-recognised school or educational institution in a country or system of EU Member State, member state of European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - European Economic Area, member state of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
This applies to secondary school leaving certificates obtained in the following countries:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Korea, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey, USA, Hungary, Great Britain, Italy.
2. International Baccalaureate (IB) certificates and European Baccalaureate (EB) certificates
3. Those under international agreements. List of such agreements can be found on the Ministry of Higher Education and Science website.
If your certificate does not meet the above requirements you need to obtain an administrative decision issued by a competent educational officer (kurator oświaty) which confirms your eligibility to apply to a university. For more detailed information, please contact Board of Education in Poznan.
Change in study regulations
If, the course of your studies, you obtained a document which entitles you to study free of charge in a first-cycle studies programme conducted in Polish, please submit an application to Vice-Rector for Students Affairs. Please, attach a copy of the document to your application.
Attention! If the date on the document will be the same as the date of admission, the application will not be processed.
Scholarship holders
A foreigner may study at AMU under one of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) programmes or the Kalinowski Scholarship. This fact should be indicated during registration in the OAS.
Holders of such a scholarship are exempt from paying tuition in accordance with the minister’s decision or NAWA director.
Attention: if a candidate applied for a scholarship but did not obtain it and is not otherwise eligible for studying free of charge, he or she will be obliged to pay tuition.

Insurance
INSURANCE
Each foreigner undertaking education at AMU is obliged to have an insurance policy in case of illness or accident insurance for the duration of education in Poland or the European Health Insurance Card (EKUZ) or an agreement concluded with the National Health Fund in Poland.

Students from EU/EFTA countries
Students from EU/EFTA countries may use health care services in Poland, provided they have valid health insurance under their country's insurance system. Free health care in Poland is available to holders of European Health Insurance Card (EKUZ). Detailed information on health care for EU/EEA are available at the National Health Fund website.
Students from non-EU/EFTA countries
We propose that students from non-EU/EFTA countries bought private international health insurance before coming to Poland. If they choose not to do this, they can take out insurance policy or conclude a contract for voluntary health insurance with the National Health Fund (NFZ) and pay a monthly insurance contribution of about EUR 15. Under this insurance programme, the students may use healh care services for free and get treatment in the university clinic and health facilities which concluded agreements with the National Health Fund. Foreign students of Polish origin from non-EU/EFTA countries
A student who is not a citizen of an EU Member State or EFTA country who has been recognized as having Polish origins within the meaning of provisions on repartition based on the consul’s decision or holders of the Polish Card (Karta Polaka) may conclude a contract with the National Health Fund on voluntary health insurance. Health care insurance contributions are paid by AMU after you fill out an application to be covered by the NHF health insurance.
